This is the secind time I have had a version of this dress in the shop and I think it feels even more relevant this time. Velvet is a fabric that tends to wane in and out of fashion and right now it is having a strong revival. I feel like so many of the modern pieces I am seeing on the runway could have very well been inspired by this exact dress too. This is a beautiful black label 1970s Halston made out of a luxurious, rich feeling purple velvet. The photos come close to conveying the color but it is even better in person. It is bias cut and cut with his signature 'as little seaming as possible' construction. The front plunges almost to the waist but without feeling 'unsafe' to wear. Also, the cut of it so well done you could potentially spin it around and wear the plunge to the back. The waist is elastic so is extremely comfortable to wear and will adjust easily to fit. The skirt has a pretty amount of fullness to it without having so much fabric that it makes you feel heavy. It is lined in a tissue silk hand dyed to match the purple and is all hand sewn and hand finished inside. Excellent condition with one mote below to review. Fully lined, including the sleeves, in a purple silk that is hand set. It slips on to wear with elastic that runs through the waist. Each cuff closes with a snap. The velvet shows variations in the way the plush of the velvet lays so a couple of small areas catch the light differently. I don't feel like this is a true flaw but mentioned for accuracy. The elastic waist and easy cut will allow it to fit a variety of sizes.
